Un’goro Brews: Lakkari DiscardLock

This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

Discard themed Warlock decks have been pushed by Blizzard since Whispers of the Old Gods and while there isn’t essentially a very super discard heavy deck around that’s ladder viable, most of the current lists simply happen to be Zoolock decks with some powerful discard cards that have always been used in aggressive Warlock decks. With Journey to Un’goro cards coming out way in 3 days, we have some really interesting cards that can push discard themed decks even further. Doomguard and Soulfire are some of the most commonly used cards in Zoo decks and in Discard Zoo decks and they fulfill 6 out of 6 discards required for this build. And with Clutchmother Zavas and Silverware Golem potentially preventing you from discarding high value cards, you do not have much to lose!

Both the Warlock legendaries have discard themed effects and they really push the boundaries of what we have seen so far from aggressive Warlock decks. Let’s take a look at some of the inclusions from the set we have included in our Discardlock brew.

Lakkari Sacrifice: Lakkari Sacrifice is the Quest legendary for Warlock and it requires you to discard 8 cards in other to get access to the Quest reward. The Nether Portal reward seems extremely powerful against control decks because they simply cannot do anything about 2 3/2 Imps spawning every turn on the board and you can grind out currently unfavorable control matchups quite effectively through the portal since it cannot be removed or dealt with at all.

Clutchmother Zavas: It is essentially a powered up Silverware Golem that grows in size in your hand and with the right amount of RNG going your way you can snowball on the board through this card. You definitely do not want to go too overboard with the card and should play it to curve out properly to maintain tempo on the board.

Lakkari Felhound: This decklist leans towards a more midrange build of Zoo and the card has solid stats for a 4 drop. Zoo decks can feel very weak to hyper aggressive decks like Pirate Warrior and having a solid taunt early on can help prevent a lot of face damage in the midgame in power turns.

Cruel Dinomancer: Building upon the mid range style of Zoo, we have Cruel Dinomancer – a card that randomly summons a discarded minion through its deathrattle. It’s good to see more cards that can potentially offset the fact that you can discard powerful minions in games and pulling back something like a Doomguard or Lakkari Felhound can turn the game around.

Igneous Elemental: It is one of the best replacements possible for Imp Gang Boss and has various synergies in the deck with cards like Knife Juggler and Defender of Argus. The 3 mana slot is definitely going to feel a little empty with the departure of Imp Gang Boss and hopefully Igneous Elemental can make up for its value.

We hope to see more unique deck types that revolve around ‘negative’ synergies that can benefit you for other classes as well and with 2 more expansions to come later this year, Discard Zoo just might be refined to the point where it becomes a staple ladder pick for climbing to high ranks.
