Stage two of the ESL Pro League started on May 21 for Cloud9, Ghost, eUnited, and Infinity. Each team played a best-of-three series against one another with only the first-place team moving on to the finals in June.

Cloud9 and Ghost played the decisive match in the third round. Both teams had two victories and the winner was set to qualify. Although Cloud9 lost the first map, they reversed the situation and claimed their spot in the finals with a 2-1 win.

Maikil “Golden” Selim, Cloud9’s captain, had a couple of clutches in the last map, Dust II. If it wasn’t for his heroics, Ghost would’ve broke Cloud9’s economy and maybe won the series.

Cloud9 have struggled recently since the roster has been changed so many times. Only Timothy “autimatic” Ta is playing well on a consistent basis and he’s been carrying the rest of the team for a long time.

But Cloud9 will have an opportunity to prove themselves in the ESL Pro League season nine finals, which will feature some of the best teams in the world, like Astralis, Liquid, MIBR, and Fnatic.

The finals will be played from June 18 to 23 in Montpellier, France. Sixteen teams will collide to fight for their share of the $750,000 prize pool.
