Remnant 2 The Dark Horizon DLC – Fragments and Prisms explained

Empower your character with amplifying Fragments and Prisms.

An added layer to Remnant 2 is the inclusion of Fragments and Prisms. These provide a variety of passive buffs to your character and were added alongside The Dark Horizon DLC. What these do and how they work can prove to be a little tricky.

The different Fragments and Prisms you activate determine your character’s playstyle, and what benefits they’re always going to have during combat in Remnant 2. You might want to lean into a particular build based on what fits your strengths, or you might grab additional passives that help augment certain weaknesses you face. Here’s what you need to know about how the Fragments and Prisms work in Remnant 2 The Dark Horizon DLC.

You can find the Fragments and Prisms while examining the in-game menu. They appear on the far left side, underneath the Fragments section. From here, you’ll get a full menu with the Prism at the center, surrounded by multiple fragments scattered around it. The Fragments are broken up into different sections, each providing a unique passive buff, but you must activate them first. You can only have three Fragments activated on your Remnant 2 character at a time, so you must choose wisely.

If you’re looking to acquire new Fragments in Remnant 2, they have a chance to drop when battling against the elite enemies that appear during your runs. These are the stronger foes you have the chance to encounter every so often, that come with a distinct sound effect. After you defeat them, another sound effect plays, indicating the danger is gone. They should drop strong crafting materials, and a relic fragment that immediately goes into your Fragment menu. There’s also a chance for you to earn Fragments by opening chests.

Fragments are the many crystals surrounding the larger Prism in the Fragments menu. These offer minor passive bonuses to your Remnant 2 character, such as increased healing effectiveness, grey health conversion, armor bonus, ammo reserves, firearm swap speed, ranged critical chance, and more. You can choose to activate them if one fits your particular build for your character.

If you have additional Fragments you don’t want to use in your build, there’s also the option to feed Fragments to your Prism. Doing this destroys the fragment on your Remnant 2 character, but it levels up your Prism, activating additional passives you can benefit from whenever you’re using that particular Prism. Even if you destroy a Prism you want to add to your build, there’s a chance you can find another one during your playthrough.

How do Prisms work in Remnant 2

The Prism is the center object found on the Fragments page in Remnant 2. This contains most passives your character can benefit from during your playthrough. All Prisms begin at level zero and slowly level up as you battle against enemies and bosses on that character, so long as you have it equipped. Each time you level up a Prism, there are three passive upgrades you can choose to give the Prism. Those remain on the Prism and affect your Remnant 2 character so long as you have the Prism equipped.

You can swap out other Prisms if you unlock them on your character. You can swap them out on the Fragments screen, unequipping and equipping your preferred choice. The activated Fragments remain the same between Prisms, but you can unlock different passives on a Prism. If you want to pick up more Prisms, speak with Dwell and Cass at Ward 13 in Remnant 2. They both have a Prism for you to purchase.

Each Prism has a distinct set of passive upgrades that you can choose to upgrade. You may want to swap out for a particular Prism that better fits your Remnant 2 character’s playstyle, and the way they fight.
