Initially, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet The Indigo Disk looked to be the culmination of the extended story for Paldea and its characters. One key component was missing from the final DLC, however, and it wasn’t until an additional epilogue dropped that we finally got answers about the mysterious Pecharunt.
We first heard the name Pecharunt when The Indigo Disk was first datamined, adding to the small hints and pieces of lore that popped up during The Teal Mask. This strange, Berry-themed Pokémon didn’t make an appearance in the DLC, but it is actively available for players to encounter.
Is Pecharunt in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet The Indigo Disk?
Pecharunt, or as it became known in the datamining community by the name Dokutaro before its “reveal,” only existed in the files of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet when The Indigo Disk first launched. It was fully programmed but not obtainable through official means, no matter what you tried to do to unlock it.
With no appearance in The Indigo Disk, players started questioning how important Pecharunt actually is to the story of the Scarlet and Violet DLC. Digging into the game files, it was discovered that Gen IX’s new Mythical Pokémon was set to release with a special in-game event that looks like an expanded version of the Mythical distributions we saw in Gen IV titles like Diamond and Pearl.
This was later confirmed by The Pokémon Company announcing an “epilogue” for The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expansion that would take players back to Kitakami and bring characters from the base game and DLC together for one last adventure. It has since been released, going live on Jan. 11 with a special Mystery Gift distribution for an item called the Mythical Pecha Berry that is key to encountering Pecharunt.
Unless you want to see some content that could happen in an upcoming event, stop reading here to avoid spoilers and either play it yourself or wait for details to be shared through official channels.
The epilogue itself is not very long but does build a small narrative around Pecharunt and its appearance in Kitakami. This involves the Pokémon controlling other characters that you need to battle while the game leans into some B movie horror elements. Once you complete every challenge, you can challenge and catch Pecharunt, thus ending the story of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
